Arriving in Saipan on Oct. 17, 2011. So we say again that we were thrilled to see Saipan from the window of our prop plane. Now that we've been here a while, we can tell you that you can see where we live and just beyond that, where we go to church. Look! Just under that one little puffy cloud in the middle of the picture and up into the island from the one tall white hotel. And that stretch of ocean that you see is where we go for our daily morning walk. . . not all of it each day, but we've seen most of it by now. The beach and island are so peaceful now, but some 60 years ago our country attacked the Japanese who were trying to hold this island in WW II. There was a terrible battle on this very beach. They came in with ships and planes and eventually secured Siapan for the US. We are learning more about that terrible time for this tropical little island.
